About

Philosophy

I am strongly in favour of a holistic, ‘whole person care’ approach towards recovery. So, that includes looking at all of the aspects that may impact your health: diet and nutrition, posture, your ability to exercise, your sleep quality, any psychological stresses or low mood, and your conditions of work. All of these things can cause an imbalance in the muscles around your shoulder and increase the inflammation in our bodies, which can be destructive and limit your ability to heal.

Benefits of choosing me

I have extensive training from some of the most prestigious institutions in the world, and I am a relaxed and approachable doctor, who really listens to what you have to say. It is not a conveyor belt operation where I rush you into standardised treatments: everything we do is carefully tailored to your exact situation and condition, and, if necessary, I am able to connect you with other relevant specialists and therapists to ensure that you get the best possible long-term outcome.

A bit about me:

I was born in the Cayman Islands (in the Caribbean), and went to boarding school in Ireland. I qualified in Medicine at Trinity College in Dublin, and I was awarded Masters’ Degrees in Sports Medicine and in Healthcare Policy and Management.

After my general medical training I moved to Hawaii, to train as a trauma surgeon. I worked at the main trauma centre for the US military forces stationed at Pearl Harbour and throughout the South Pacific.

I moved back to the UK to continue my specialist training in leading orthopaedic centres in London, Cheltenham, Swindon and Bristol (where I also carried out a fellowship in trauma surgery). In my spare time, I worked as the Lead Pit Lane Doctor for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for several years and as the helicopter doctor for the Desert Challenge in Dubai, before moving to Sydney, Australia to train with some of the best sports surgeons in the world.

In Australia I completed fellowships in Shoulder, Sports and Upper Limb Surgery and treated elite athletes, professional footballers, international rugby players and top division Aussie Rules (AFL) Players.

I love outdoor sports and am a keen surfer, rock climber, mountain biker and snowboarder. I live with my wife, daughter and 2 rescue greyhounds in Bristol, in the beautiful West Country. This gives me easy access to the Avon and Cheddar Gorges for climbing; the surfing beaches of Southwest Wales, Devon and Cornwall; and numerous mountain-bike trails locally. In the summertime, my family and I enjoy swimming in Clevedon Marine Lake and playing tennis in our local Bristol club. My wife and daughter are also keen horse riders and I have recently started riding with them on the Mendips. Aside from sports I enjoy growing organic vegetables in my allotment, playing guitar, painting in oils and acrylics and sculpting.
